What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers, composed of a thin layer of porcelain expertly bonded to the tooth surface, have emerged as a popular and versatile cosmetic solution. Designed to address various aesthetic concerns, they are especially favored by patients with small teeth, gaps between teeth, or teeth that are discolored or misshapen. Through their natural translucency and impeccable fit, veneers effortlessly conceal imperfections, creating a harmonious and symmetrical smile that exudes confidence.
The true beauty of veneers lies in their ability to cater to individuals who possess otherwise healthy teeth but harbor insecurities about their appearance. With a conservative approach that preserves the bulk of the original tooth structure, veneers offer a non-invasive option for achieving remarkable smile transformations. Patients no longer need to feel self-conscious about their dental flaws as veneers effectively mask these imperfections, leaving them with an aesthetically pleasing and radiant grin.

Why Get Veneers?

Many people are unhappy with how one or more of their teeth look. At our Buffalo, NY, dentist office, we have a variety of solutions for different problems. If your teeth are crooked, we talk to you about orthodontia. If they are discolored, bleaching might be right for you. If one or more of your teeth are chipped, we may be able to offer you bonding.
Candidates for dental veneers are usually those for whom the above solutions don’t work. For instance, if your teeth are discolored due to many years of smoking or taking medication and you can’t tolerate the discomfort associated with bleaching or your teeth don’t respond to bleaching, veneers might be a good solution for you.
If your teeth are healthy, but small, worn down or irregularly shaped, veneers can give your smile a more typical appearance.
How Do Veneers Work?
In order for our dentists to place veneers, we have to remove a thin layer of the enamel on your teeth to make room for the veneer. Most porcelain veneers are about a half-millimeter thick. Lumineers are thinner and thus do not require enamel to be removed from your teeth. Traditional porcelain veneers last anywhere from 10-20 years, while Lumineers may not last as long.
Because our dentists must remove some of the enamel from your healthy teeth, veneers are a lifetime commitment, and when they wear out, you must get replacements. This isn’t the case with Lumineers, however, because they are so thin. You can have them removed at any time.
Additionally, not every patient is a candidate for veneers. If teeth are badly discolored, the discoloration might be visible through the veneer. An evaluation from our dentists can help determine if veneers are right for you.

What Our Patients Say
Mark Beehler
I have been a patient at Southtown Dental for several years. After 50 years of not looking forward to going to the dentist, I can say that I actually enjoy going now. The hygienist, Deanna, is outstanding. Not only does she do a terrific job but she is gentle and very personable. The office staff is professional and on point. They are also very welcoming and friendly. It really comes down to the dentist care which has always been very good. Today my teeth are clean and sparkly- I look forward to going back in 6 months!
